I have eighteen amazing pre-k students. They live in an urban area and face many struggles and challenges. School is a very important place for them. It is a safe place where they come to grow, learn and explore. I truly love teaching them and helping them to build their foundation for future learning. They absorb new information like sponges and have an excitement for life. They always keep me laughing with their funny stories and sayings. I look forward to watching them grow and learn this school year.
Shared reading with big books helps Pre-K students to learn new reading strategies and also gives them the opportunity to practice new skills. Students can learn concepts of print, extend and enrich their vocabularies, and also interact with text in an exciting way. The Big Books in this set are predictable, have repetitive text, and pictures that support the text. The activities that are included help students to learn how to sequence, retell the story, and can be used across the curriculum.
Big Books are a great way for everyone in the class to participate and to have the opportunity to feel successful.
The teacher is able to model skills and show the students what great readers do. They provide students with an experience that conveys a joy and love of reading.
