I teach a vibrant group of first and second graders. We are constantly moving! We are small in number, but vast in ability. Some students are at the basics of reading and number concepts, while others are reading fluently and independently or manipulating multi-digits. Our class enjoys music, game-based learning, and yoga. We are learning to be mindful students and to be of a growth mindset.
Some of our favorite topics are animals, outer space, and people around the world.
We are a small, rural school. Many of the students live on dirt roads, and some completely off the grid. The majority of our families live on low incomes. Many of them rely on free or reduced-price meals. The greatest thing about our school is the rich sense of community. We are a village, raising the future.
My Project
Our ELA curriculum includes enriching reading experiences through several big books. Right now these books are being stored in a shelf space where the only way they fit is in a stack that has to be sorted through each time we access a new book. We have a large, refurbished stand that is pulled out for displaying, but isn't safe to leave out so the books cannot be left on display for later interaction.
Students thrive with active participation.
The magnetic white board that this easel includes will allow a space for word building and putting their thoughts into writing. We want these books to be easily accessible and to last a long time. This easel will not only offer safe, accessible storage for the books. It also provides a place to display the book properly so students have access to them. This one tool will not only offer practical care for our supplies, but will also increase student engagement.
