My first and second graders are always moving and wiggling. Traditional chairs often end up getting in the way more than anything. They just can't keep their bottoms on the seats, let alone their feet on the floor! I began experimenting with flex seating a few years ago. We started with a few stability balls, which are affordable but only work well in small doses. We added some crate seats, which work for the students who haven't sprouted up quite yet. This year a parent donated a wobble stool. It was amazing! They all loved it. So we got one more in the taller size. As we are reaching the end of the year, it looks like we really have a winner! Students can move wobble stools easily. They actually stay on their seats. Our first and second grade would love to have a class set of wobble stools so their bodies can move as their brains work.
