My students need a library including the Mo Willems series and nonfiction books in order to improve their reading comprehension skills while fostering a love for reading.

Growing up, my love for reading and learning was fostered by my teachers. By giving me the tools I needed in order to read, I was able go anywhere and learn anything- simply from opening up a book. As an adult, my goal is simple: create this opportunity for the students I teach.
My students are my family.
Just like in any other family, you can not use one word to sum up all of their quirky characteristics! However, they do have one thing in common; a thirst to learn. The community in which I teach creates very unique challenges for my students and their families. They thrive for a place that is safe and has the resources they need in order to quench this desire of knowledge. The staff at our school is dedicated to doing right by our students. There is nothing we want more than to give our kids the tools they need in order to be successful in life. We are a diverse group, all coming from different walks of life. All of our differences allow us to come together to create an unstoppable force that will let nothing get in our way of being successful!
By far, the favorite part of my students' day is reading centers- they actually cheer (every day) when I announce it is time to break into groups! One of the centers that the kids engage in is the library center. Here they read books alone, with a friend, or to a buddy (stuffed animal) and then complete activities on these stories. These six year-old kids are hungry for books and I am running out of food! Having these resources would mean that my students would not be limited in the doors that I am trying to open for them. They would not have to limit themselves to only a couple books a week. They would be able to find "just right" books for them on their reading level. More importantly, it would mean that their love for reading would have room to grow.
Donations to this project would improve my classroom because it would mean an expansion past my four walls.
Books allow students to travel to worlds both real and imaginary, farther than any field trip ever could. My kids deserve a chance to love reading and to be strong readers! Simply being able to get their little hands on just ONE book that they fall in love with could be the answer to them being successful for the rest of their education.
