Beyond Our Walls: a Library at Their Fingertips

Help me give my students the opportunity to explore, discover, and develop a love of reading beyond our classroom walls with the purchase of 3 Kindle devices.

My Project

My 40 fifth-grade students love having the freedom to choose books that match their interests. However, with so many different reading levels, favorite genres, and developing interests, the books in our classroom library cannot always meet every student’s needs. When children find a book that truly connects with them, reading stops feeling like an assignment and becomes an experience they look forward to.Our students receive a library number that gives them access to thousands of digital books through our local library. Unfortunately, not every student has a personal device they can use to access this incredible resource.

These three Kindle devices will allow students to explore a much larger selection of books than I could ever provide on our classroom shelves.

Students will use the Kindles during independent reading, small-group instruction, and classroom reading activities. They will be able to explore different genres, discover new authors, continue favorite series, and select books that fit their individual interests and reading levels. The protective cases will keep the devices safe while they are being shared, and the page turners will allow students to prop up the Kindles and turn pages easily while reading, taking notes, or responding to the text.

With these Kindles, my students will have an entire digital library at their fingertips. Greater access to books will help them build reading stamina, strengthen comprehension, expand their vocabulary, and become more confident and independent readers.

The best way to help students grow as readers is to give them more opportunities to read books they genuinely enjoy. These Kindles will open the door to new stories, ideas, and possibilities—allowing learning to continue far beyond our classroom walls.
