This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students to need to be engaged in non-fiction text that is relevant to them and will take them beyond their classroom!

I teach first grade in a high needs community in Connecticut.

My students are excited about coming to school. They are active and eager to learn. Unfortunately, they often have limited resources in the classroom due to the tough economy that we are all facing.

My Project

I remember getting Weekly Reader in my classroom when I was in first grade. It was always exciting. It was not just another book, but my own newspaper that I could read and understand on my own. I liked everything about it wight down to the smell of the newsprint it was printed on. I want my students to be as excited as I was reading and learning about their world!

When I print poems off of the Internet and tell my students they get to keep it when they are done, they get excited.

When I run off reproducible books on copy paper and tell them they get to keep them, they get excited. I can just imagine how excited they will be when I tell them that they are going to get their own newspaper that they get to keep. You can be a part of that. Please help take my students learning experiences beyond the classroom with Weekly Reader!
