This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom consists of 9th grade English Language Arts students who have a strong desire to learn. However, when it comes to reading, I often hear phrases like, "Reading is boring" or "Reading isn't fun." My goal is to change that. I want to create a classroom library for my students in hopes of showing them that reading can be both educational and fun.
My students have so much potential.
They just need a little push in order to see just how great they can be. I want my students to be ready for either college or a career by showing them the importance and necessity of reading on a daily basis.
Reading is a skill that everyone needs in almost every aspect of their lives. My hopes are that my classroom library will not only inspire students to have a desire to read but also enable them to see that reading can open a world of opportunities and possibilities.
My Project
My 9th grade students are reluctant readers. They often express that they have never read chapter books or any type of books from cover to cover. We need a classroom library that includes a wide variety of books has the potential to create a love and joy for reading in my students. The books I am requesting will be used daily during my instruction. We will read different books as a class, and students will also be allowed to read books of their choice. To extend our learning, we will reflect, discuss, and share our thoughts about what we read. We are requesting The Poet X, The Hate U Give, Long Way Down and many more.
I want to show my students that daily reading can be educational and fun.
My goal is to have books that inspire my them to be creative and successful. I have chosen books like The Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas because these books deal with real world issues that some students experience on a daily basis. I want them to see books and reading as way to spark their interest in the world around as well as to encourage them to think deeply and critically.
