My 9th grade students are reluctant readers. They often express that they have never read chapter books or any type of books from cover to cover. We need a classroom library that includes a wide variety of books has the potential to create a love and joy for reading in my students. The books I am requesting will be used daily during my instruction. We will read different books as a class, and students will also be allowed to read books of their choice. To extend our learning, we will reflect, discuss, and share our thoughts about what we read. We are requesting The Poet X, The Hate U Give, Long Way Down and many more. I want to show my students that daily reading can be educational and fun. My goal is to have books that inspire my them to be creative and successful. I have chosen books like The Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas because these books deal with real world issues that some students experience on a daily basis. I want them to see books and reading as way to spark their interest in the world around as well as to encourage them to think deeply and critically.
