This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Bright, engaged, caring students fill the classroom eager to learn each day. Our school is a Title I school. Students receive free lunches along with breakfast and dinner each day provided by the school. The students live in older houses or apartment buildings. Parent participation is low. Some students have parents that work two jobs to support their families along with some being raised by grandparents or aunts and uncles. Our students deserve our best. We hope we give that to them everyday!
My Project
First graders need to have hands on learning. The magnetic letters allow them to build words which improves their ability to code words which makes them better readers. The two different colors help students see the difference between vowels and consonants. The journals allow first graders to write about things that interest them. They can share journals with their peers to help them take ownership in their work!!! “Better Writers are Better Readers!” My students love sharing their writing with their peers. It helps quite children speak out. It sometimes helps outgoing student become a little more quite. It promotes the love of writing!
