My Students

I work with four 5th grade classes as an ELL (English Language Learner) co-teacher. Our students face numerous challenges, but are resilient and inspire me every day. They are inquisitive, energetic, funny and helpful.

As a performing arts magnet school, our students are artists, musicians, actors and dancers, as well as scientists, mathematicians, linguists and historians.

44% of our students qualify for ELL services. 92% of our students are students of color. 85% of students at our school qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch.

My Project

My students are eager and energetic students. They want to grasp the concepts that we tackle in class. However, tackling concepts without sufficient supplies is a real challenge. We need quality staplers for our thick Reading A to Z leveled books, a three-hole punch for organizing our disheveled papers into binders and a timer to keep us prompt and timely. Students frequently ask me for these supplies, particularly the timer (!). When I am in a classroom with a timer, the students even ask me to give them time check-ins. I'd love to have one for my own classroom in our pull-out groups. Our organization skills and general understanding of concepts will improve with these supplies.

My 5th graders are the engineers, pilots, dentists and architects of the future.

They need to understand the concepts and facts that we cover in our classroom. These supplies are just the ticket! Thank you for considering this project.
