This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from a very low socioeconomic background. Most of their parents work from sun up to sun down in the fields trying to provide a living for their families. Our students are always so eager to learn and we try to provide them with an environment in which the feel safe, loved, and appreciated.

Many of of our children come to school with an already "filled cup" full of worries and issues that make it very difficult for them to focus on academics.

My Project

I teach technology for grades K-5th. I've always noticed that many of these students tend to slouch and that many of our younger students are unable to reach the floor and control their body movements, which causes them to lose focus and decrease productivity. I have seen these stools used first hand in other schools and have spoken with other teachers. They have raved about the difference that this type of flexible seating has made a tremendous difference in the attention span of their students and how it has curved many of the behavior problems due to students not having an outlet for their pent up energy. I am hoping that this too will help my students.
