My students need behind the seat storage for their chairs because they sit at tables. They do not have desks to keep important supplies and books close.
Can you imagine having to organize 22 fourth graders and all their books, pencils, supplies, agendas, etc...without a desk to store them? My students sit at tables which are excellent for group work, projects and learning, however, it would be so helpful to have behind the seat storage.
My students are from many diverse backgrounds and economic backgrounds.
My students are 9 year olds who love learning and are enthusiastic learners. They are happy to come to school in the morning and they leave with smiles on their faces. My students are beginning to really enjoy reading for pleasure and often find themselves "falling" into stories and chapter books that I read aloud or they read independently!!! Their favorite time of the day is read-aloud, they love sitting at the carpet listening to chapter books. They often check out the same books out at the library to follow along as I read aloud. Many times, they continue a series and write about the books they're reading independently in their readers/writers notebook! My students have various learning needs and abilities. We are a public school where learning and community is emphasized daily. It is a happy and welcoming place for students, teachers and their families!
My Project
The resource I am requesting is a storage system that fits behind student chairs. We are using tables rather than desks, which has been a great way for students to work together and share. However, students keep all of their supplies in bins in the back of the classroom. There is no place to keep items such as books, agendas, pencils, markers, etc. This storage system would allow students to keep items we use most often at close reach. They would be able to feel a sense of personal space in such a "community" centered classroom. This storage system would also entitle the classroom to more space and functionality. As a student, a desk or personal space is so important. It would be nice to give students in my classroom the best of both worlds. A interactive workspace and a personal space to keep school supplies at close reach. This would also decrease time spent going back and forth to various bins throughout the classroom to get books, markers, pencils, etc...during transition periods.
This storage system will help students stay organized and responsible for their books and belongings.
It will allow students to feel a sense of ownership in our classroom. Our classroom storage system will be greatly improved and the flow and functionality of the classroom with be increased. Overall, the students will be thrilled to have their own "space" to keep special independent reading books, favorite pencils, agendas, etc...
