Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Stewart’s Superheroes is a brand new addition to our elementary school in Hazelwood, Missouri; New Beginnings Disciplinary Alternative Education Program. This program will involve K-5th grade students.

New Beginnings is not an in-school suspension program.

It is a multi-faceted and multi-tiered approach to responding to and improving student behavior. Students work one-on-one with behavioral interventionists and instructional aides and meet frequently with a school counselor and social worker.

As a brand new program to the school and a previous kindergarten teacher, I am in desperate need of many items to help improve calmness, such as fidget/sensory toys, squishy balls, weighted blanket or lap pad, thinking putty, kinetic sand, beanbags or other forms of alternative seating. I feel I'm destined to help those affected by trauma and truly excited for this new journey. Anything and everything is truly appreciated!! Thank you in advance for reading about us!

My Project

These items will increase learning by calming behavioral distractions due to trauma. Trauma caused by lack of food, sleep, nurture, or even income. Trauma that causes misbehavior. My new classroom will teach the student how to change their reactions for the better of them and society!

Flexible seating allows students to move a bit while learning.

Sensory items are calming to high tense scenarios. A combination of these items, natural lighting and calming music have shown to increase learning and attention. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read our story!
