Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us put an end to bullying! My fourth grade students are in need of books to reference while completing a project to help combat bullying.
Our school is located in an extremely low income area.
Many gang groups reside nearby and, unfortunately, some of our students will believe their only choice is to join. While it may seem like a stretch to connect bullying and gang violence, I feel the two are equally sad and scary for our students. The strategies they will learn from this project can help them avoid scary and sometimes life threatening situations.
My Project
These anti-bullying books and three portable video cameras will enable my students to record their thoughts and feelings about bullying and turn them into a helpful course of action that other students can use. My master plan is to research bullying and the damage it can cause and allow the students to collaborate and work that information into a short public service announcement that can be shown to the rest of our school. Hopefully this will promote a sense of community and respect throughout our school that will transcend their elementary education and go forth into middle and high school.
I anticipate this project being very meaningful to my class as well as the rest of our school.
Sometimes the most powerful messages come from the smallest teachers. Funding this project will give them a voice.
