Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The beginning of expressions through drawing, writing and telling a story.
I teach state-preschool and my students begin the school year age ranging from 3 - 4 year olds and ending the school year as 4 - 5 year olds and ready for kindergarten.
My students come to me speaking their home language (Spanish) and some students speaking both languages and with some comprehension. These students are given an opportunity in becoming lifelong learners: how to relate to other students socially, providing hands on activities, include and allowing their family to be part of their education.
My Project
My students will have many opportunities throughout their day to explore materials. Beginning with basics of what they know about using materials given to them. Daily I will model print to my students using different media and different colors to catch their interest. I will encourage students in large and/or small group to use different materials. Students will learn to draw shapes of letters: up and down, curves and dangles, name letters, begin with writing letters to his/her name and recognizing his/her name. Weekly as a new letter is presented, will begin to copy letters and simple words begin with letter of the week. By the end of their first school year, they will sound out a letter and write that letter. I want my students to succeed, with the use of chalk or dry erase markers, I will let them know that it's OK to erase and start over. My students will be ready for kindergarten, in drawing a picture and writing one or two words. Tell a story in their own words.
We are only given the basics for everyday learning.
My students needs a variety of materials to explore and develop fine motor skills. With the use of different materials, different colors and providing different activities. Students interest in writing grows, students will want to display their work, share their work with family.
