My Students

This year is my 23rd year in education. It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of Western North Carolina. My drive to work is full of beautiful landscapes. My school is pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with around 550 students.

We are an A+ Arts Integration School where the arts are seamlessly infused in teaching and learning.

The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student. Economic status does not provide a barrier to learning; instead, it provides a challenge this school accepts on a daily basis. With your help, we can give these deserving students everything they need!

My Project

This project is an ongoing showing of love and literacy. It has taken off like wildfire at every school I have been assigned. Last school year I moved schools mid-year and I was once again shown how students love to have books of their own. They love to read to their siblings and families. These precious moments are priceless. We are requesting a selection of books to be ordered through Scholastic. I am fortunate enough to stay at this great school for the upcoming school year. We are requesting books to add to our collection so students have plenty of great choices. Students receive books for positive office referrals, in tutoring groups and for showing perseverance. The specific titles will be chosen based on when this project is fully funded as the titles available change each month. Students will be able to take them home and keep them! I will select a variety of genre and reading levels so the students can all find a book (or two) that they want to read.

Books are not made for furniture, but there is nothing else that so beautifully furnishes a house.
