Every day, I have the joy of creating memories of success, failure, and perseverance while teaching kindergartners the joys of learning.
My kindergartners want to be the best that they can, yet our state is 51st in school funding.
We are a Title I school, where everyone receives free breakfast and most receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come from trauma-filled backgrounds, low-income families, and will be the first to go to college. Despite these struggles, my five-year-old scholars are still inquisitive. They are full of questions, from the iconic "Why is the sky blue?" to the question I was asked the other day, "Why do apples come in different colors?" I want my students to further their curiosity by learning how to read, write, do math, and be knowledgeable about the world. Furthermore, I want them to go home and share their learning with their families.
My Project
My kindergarten students are now learning in remote at home due to the coronavirus. A majority of my students are now decoding CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant) and need practice in actual text.
The 14 requested early reader books are not only engaging, but are just right for my emerging readers.
The corresponding workbook has rigorous written work related to the text. The highlighter tape will be used to find certain sounds or high frequency words.
The students in my class are so excited to learn how to read. Thanks for supporting the next generation of book lovers!
