Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school has a diverse population of more than 3,000 students with large numbers of Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian, Filipino, and Polish students. Many parents speak a language other than English at home. We have a large population of immigrant families, and the majority of students are receiving free/reduced rate lunch. We pride ourselves on offering many opportunities for our students.
As the head coach of our FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Team - FRC 3314, The Mechanical Mustangs, we strive to bring hands-on learning to everyone.
My classroom focus is to have students do real-world problem solving and have fun building robots simultaneously.
My Project
The Mechanical Mustangs Robotics Team is always looking for new and exciting ways to interact with our younger generation of scientists and engineers. This spring, at the Liberty Science Center, there is an amazing exhibit: Bees to Bots.
According to LSC: "The third floor hallway is buzzing with excitement; peer inside our honey bee hive to see real bees at work, busily building honeycomb and making honey; walk through our new multimedia exhibition about cutting-edge bee science; see real radar gear that biologists stick onto bees, watch video clips of bug-inspired drones and robots, and pose near a wild bee photo that’s 90 times larger than life."
This corresponds with our Creature Craze FLLJr projects where the students are working with elementary school students and learning about insects, predators, and habitats.
This is part 1 of a multi-part project with various teachers to take our students to this exhibit and explore the world of Bees and other insects. This project will cover the cost of 2 buses to take the students to the exhibit.
