Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I, Pre K-4 elementary school with a diverse, multicultural population of approximately 1200 students. 65% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. My class of 24 kindergarten students are from a diverse background. Many of the students do not have access to technology at home.

These young learners are enthusiastic about learning anything when they can use their hands, creativity and technology.

My goal is to provide technology opportunities in the classroom setting.

My Project

This past year we implemented STEM into our curriculum. Using coding apps on iPads, my kindergarten students learned the basic programming vocabulary, problem solving and collaboration. They did so well that I would like to extend our engineering lessons to include the bright yellow Bee-Bot robots.

By donating to my project my students will have the opportunity to learn coding, develop critical thinking, problem solving skills and social skills with Bee-Bot robots.

My students will work collaboratively in teams to move Bee-Bots from one place to another using code. They will also sequencing stories they create, as well as, practice literacy and math skills. We use Twitter and the class website as our platform to share our learning. My goal is to inspire these young students to learn code and why it is important in our daily lives.
