My Students

My students are inquisitive and love hands on learning. I teach 22 amazing children with a wide range of ability levels. They are focused and challenged when given manipulatives that allow them to be creative! All of my students are engaged when given the opportunity to use technology or STEM materials.

Many of my students have access to computers however I have several students that don't have that opportunity at home.

Our school is located in a small town with about 20,000 people. We have 539 students in a PreK-5 building. Our free and reduced-lunch population is over 25% and 14% of our students are minorities. I want to inspire a love for learning and problem solving for all of my students.

In my classroom, I have STEM boxes with a variety of manipulatives that allow my students to show their creativity and problem solving skills. This is a huge motivator for my students. My reluctant learners will focus and complete assignments so they have the opportunity to work with these hands on materials. I would like to develop more STEM lessons in my classroom.

My Project

My goal is to inspire my student so they can each reach their full potential. I know technology and hands on activities are motivating to them because they are high interest. STEM activities will engage my students and challenge them to want to learn more.

I want to create an environment where my students feel safe to explore and challenge their thinking even though they may get a wrong answer and to persevere when something may not work the first time.

We learn from our mistakes and by teaching others what we have learned. I want them to be challenged and not give up.

With the Bee-Bot robots, I know my students will be excited to try new things without a fear of failure. These coding robots will develop problem solving skills, math reasoning, communication skills and foster cooperative learning. I have a wide range of abilities in my classroom. Many students have strengths in areas outside of the traditional classroom curriculum. I believe these engineering activities will engage all of my learners and create an atmosphere where all of my students can succeed.
