Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I serve come from one of the most socio economically disadvantaged communities in the Greater Houston area. Our school was recently affected by Hurricane Harvey. Cuts in educational funding for our Title I school greatly affects the college and career readiness of each of these students. However, many of our students will go on to be first college graduates in their families. Our students are exceptional students who are willing to work to succeed against all odds. They understand that a strong solid education will open doors that one would least expect. So the use of modern technology will offer unimaginable educational experiences.

My Project

We are requesting four iPad minis that will allow for us to complete a set for our learning center. The iPads will be used in my STEM Center. Students will use these iPads to collaborate on group findings by sharing through the cloud. I could download apps for various math practice skills for a math center. This would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students in math and in science.

My project will make a difference by giving low-income students access to new technology which have a great impact on their futures.

Our classrooms are not yet at the level technologically to meet their needs as learners. This grant will help to close that gap just a little bit more.
