As a teacher in a school district where many of my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. My concern is that issues such as 30% or more of my students receive a free or reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status may affect academic growth and prevent emotional and mental strength. Despite the many challenges they are all hard workers, flexible and have a growth mindset or at least we are working towards one. They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention from anyone who is willing to give it. I look to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences in all areas.
When students walk into my classroom and we all work together I feel all things are possible and development is limitless while they are with me.
I may not be able to control their home lives but, I can certainly place them all in an environment where they can feel as equals in managing their skills, experiences, and involvement during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I hope to inspire each of them.
My Project
Becoming independent and feeling confident in the classroom is something we have been working on together all year. Talking with my students, they said if they knew that they had worked hard on a problem and then found out they got the correct answer right away or it was wrong with out making a big deal about it, it would make them feel much more confident in their work. I have tried this out using my cell phone and an old iPod that I had at home. I did find that they were willing to celebrate correct answers and willing to try to redo and erase if the answer was incorrect but on the right track (erasing is a big deal in 4th grade).
This is a great step to becoming independent in the classroom and it also frees me to work with students who could not understand the concept or assignment.
So with both of these Apple iPods. along with the old Ipad and my cell phone it would allow 4 students to check their work at one time. It would allow for more work time, more problems being checked and more practice on a concept that will help them in their future. Yes,I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks for your consideration.
