Help me give my students a wonderful collection of picture books to support our learning of grammar and writing.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
4th graders are energetic, enthusiastic kids who come with many different learning styles. Students always start the year excited to learn something new and in new ways. They amaze me every day with their ideas, their willingness to try, and the grit they show when they fail and try again. I love their ability to think outside the box and how they learn so much from one another.
This year, I am incorporating a new way to teach grammar, conventions, ideas, and style in writing using Mentor Sentences by Jivey.
This wonderful curriculum uses picture books to introduce language to students, making literacy more accessible for all students using research-based strategies. Students will notice, imitate, discuss, and learn how to create beautiful sentences they can then incorporate into their writing.
Picture books are fun at any age. They are typically short, have a good message, are well-written, have illustrations that are engaging, and I know that 4th graders still enjoy having picture books read to them. Students who are exposed to great writing become better writers, themselves.
The books used in Mentor Sentences show students what good writing can be.
They will use the techniques within these books and learn to apply them in their own writing. Through these books my students will hone their craft of style, language, grammar, and mechanics in their own writing. These books will serve as examples of good writing that students will discuss, imitate, re-create, and practice on a daily basis.
