Picture books are fun at any age. They are typically short, have a good message, are well-written, have illustrations that are engaging, and I know that 4th graders still enjoy having picture books read to them. Students who are exposed to great writing become better writers, themselves. The books used in Mentor Sentences show students what good writing can be. They will use the techniques within these books and learn to apply them in their own writing. Through these books my students will hone their craft of style, language, grammar, and mechanics in their own writing. These books will serve as examples of good writing that students will discuss, imitate, re-create, and practice on a daily basis.
