Help me give my students the opportunity to explore what diversity is through literature. I also want the students to know what inequality means and what it looks like through the books that we will read.
A typical day in our classroom is very busy. We are jam packed with math, differentiated learning, reading, writing, and then PE. My students are awesome and have such great attitudes even though home lives are hard. We really work on teaching the whole child.
It is not enough for my students to be aware of the injustices in our country, they need to be activists.
My students love to learn and want to make a difference not only in their homes but in their community. My goal is to provide books in the classroom that provide them with the knowledge that they need to be more aware of the world around them.
My Project
My students live in a predominately white small town. The inequalities that are in our country are not always brought to their attention at home. Unfortunately, the students aren't around diversity much either, so introducing that concept and learning to love of others that may be different than you, is so important.
I believe it is my job to give the students the books that they need to become aware of the injustices that are in our country.
My students also need to be aware of the diversity that is in our world. It is through this awareness of diversity and the inequalities that arise because of that diversity, that we need to educate our students.
