Do you remember learning how to write? There are rules about grammar, vocabulary, spelling, sentence structure, paragraph transitions, mechanics and verb usage. On top of that, we teachers want our students to be creative and have fun with the writing process. Learning all those rules is no easy task for my 30 special needs students at Walsh Elementary School in Chicago. On the other hand, many of them used to feel the same way about reading. That is, until I introduced them to SRA's Specific Skill Series in Reading Comprehension. I hope to give them similar help while learning about the writing process and all of its rules. I strongly believe that SRA's Specific Skill Series for Language Arts will help greatly. It will teach them the rules of the English language, allowing them to become successful writers. The series also allows my students to start at their individual levels and work at their own paces. As they learn about Language Arts and become proficient at one skill they will either have the ability to either change to another skill or learn about the skill set they are studying on a more complex level. Giving my students effective writing skills is very important. It can lead to life changing effects. Many times writing a strong essay is the deciding factor in students gaining entry into the high school or college of their choice. Later in life it can even be a factor in obtaining professional employment.
