Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyone wants to be a drummer, but there's more to it than just hitting a drum. With the proper equipment, we can turn our "wannabe" drummers into percussionists.
My school is located in a high-poverty area.
The children have a lot of "heart and soul" but not much equipment. After an R&B band came to visit our school and had the children playing along with them using percussion accessories, I noticed that many of the kids played with lots of rhythm. I would like to be able to tap into that raw talent and develop a percussion section.
My Project
With drum sticks, drum pads, books, a metronome, and software, the children will learn how to keep a steady beat, basic note reading, basic rudiments, and creativity. The band will finally be able to have a percussion section that can actually be able to play on beat and complement the music.
When people donate to this project, they know that they will not only be helping to develop a percussion section, but also contributing to the welfare of the whole band.
Developing a percussion section will also help to build up the entire band program. Not only will it contribute to the lives of those who play percussion by gaining a new skill, it will also help those who play wind instruments by making the ensemble finally complete and have everyone playing to a beat.
