This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from the largest school districts in the state of Connecticut.
We are also one of the largest schools in our district.
Most of my students live below the poverty line, in environments that are not conducive to learning, and sometimes in circumstances we couldn't imagine. Even with these things going on around them, they make it to school every day and have an insatiable love of learning. The smiles on their faces as they walk through my classroom door every morning is truly what makes me come back each day.
My Project
Reading is an activity I enjoy. I know that it something I can enjoy even more if I am comfortable. These beanbags will do just that. I want my students to be able to "cuddle up" with a good book.
Doesn't everyone deserve a comfortable place to read?
I think so.
These bean bags will not only be useful during reading, they will also be a great resource for my students to use during other times. For example, now one of my math groups can pull out these bean bags and sit in a circle to discuss the problem they are solving. In addition to that, my Socratic Seminar groups will not have to sit on the hard floor any longer.
There are so many possibilities, but in the end it is about adding a layer of comfort for my students.
