Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school. The majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch and come from homes where English is their second language. A large percentage of the population are "at-risk" and have focusing issues. Many of them come to school with little life experiences, such as going to the show or watching a play at the theater. Even though they have daily obstacles to overcome, they come to school eager to learn. Once they enter my classroom, I want them to be assured that they are in a safe, learning environment and that anything is possible!
My Project
There's nothing better than curling up on a comfy couch with a good book. Since we don't have a couch in the classroom, my students are looking for the next best thing...bean bags!
This project will bring bean bags into the classroom and provide a comfortable reading corner for my students.
This year my class is made up of a group of third graders that are developing their love of reading. Several of them have a hard time concentrating, especially when there is noise around them. With these bean bags, I will be able to provide all students with a quiet corner that is free of distractions. I have even bought some noise reducers that they will have the option of using to block outside noises. This project will help me continue my goal of creating life-long readers.
