My classroom consists of 36 students who are ages four and five and are all coming to school for the very first time. While I work daily to expose them to letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, they are learning far more than just academics. Each day, they are learning to socialize with peers by sharing, problem-solving, cooperating, and even contributing to a class. They come each day to gain a sense of who they are away from home and learn best through movement, play, and interactions with their peers.
In my experience, by allowing students to learn through imaginative play and social experiences, they are more well rounded and prepared for their future kindergarten experience.
My Project
I am asking for these materials for a Gym Class Unit using Bean Bags for our preschool classes. Musical Activities for students to follow, a variety of bean bags, cones to mark spots on the floor, and a container to hold all the items, is everything needed to make this a success!
When participating in bean bag activities, students are understanding their left and right, crossing the mid line, as well as being able to control the two sides of the body.
Students are learning body awareness by placing the bean bag on different parts, and even the ability to balance the bean bag.
Students are enhancing hand and eye coordination by getting the two to work together to complete a challenge. Lastly, they are using listening skills to follow verbal directions.
If my students were able to receive these supplies, it would benefit their gross motor instruction during Physical Education.
