My Project

My students are great, hardworking kids who come to school each day and strive to reach the goals and expectations set for them. We are a Title I school in the state of Michigan. Like many classrooms, I have students with a wide variety of talents and challenges. I have children with special needs and children who might not exhibit any particular special needs but need just as much attention. I have students who qualify for gifted education and students who need academic intervention. Some who struggle with behavior and some who I work with to get to speak up more. My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic groups. These students come to school with a smile on their face, even though some of them are faced with extreme burdens and challenges in their home life.

I would like to help encourage my students to read many books from many different genres.

We will begin the year by creating our book reading necklaces. Students will choose a necklace and place beads on it to spell out their name. The rest of the school year, as students complete a book, they will receive a different colored bead for each different genre of a book they read. This will track how many books a student reads and all the different genres they are able to read throughout the course of a school year.
