Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our students are fun-loving, energetic, and eager to learn Prekindergarten through Fourth graders, who attend school in an urban setting. We are focusing on integrating STEAM throughout our daily instruction, so that all students are exposed to a wide variety of challenging topics. As well as building our students leadership skills through the Leader in Me Framework. We strive to meet our students' needs through project based learning and rigorous curriculum.

Our school is a school of excellence where children can achieve their full leadership potential in academics and creativity thus becoming lifelong learners prepared for the 21st century and beyond.

My Project

We are a magnet school that specializes in STEAM. One of our main goals is to build a sustainable magnet program that will support our students educationally as well as social emotionally. Myself and a few other staff members joined together and established our school's drama club. This is our first year of implementation.

We work to foster ways our students can express themselves, be individuals, and show confidence.

Social-emotional growth is a significant part of being successful. We have a great improvement in our students social emotional and educational growth. This drama club has helped children blossom into vocal students who share their ideas and respect other. They have also improved in literacy as well incorporate reading and writing activities into our drama lessons.

These materials will help us with our school play. We will be performing "A Bad Case of Stripes" by David Shannon. This book is all about being yourself and being proud of who you are. Our students are extremely excited to perform in front of the student body and their families. These props will be useful of costumes, set design, and the overall esthetics of the play. There are two major scenes, the bedroom and classroom, that these materials will be utilized for. In addition the clothing will be used for the actors costumes.
