This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with a group of young girls at my school in a group called Girls' Clubhouse. We work on building self-esteem and showing kindness to each other. This is a special group of girls because they need a self-esteem BOOST. They need to know they are Beautiful, Smart, and how to Love themselves. Building self-esteem is our main goal for this group!!
I teach in a school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
This group of girls is in grades 3-5.
My Project
The Black Girl Magic books will help build self-esteem in our girls grades 3-5. This is a special group of girls that will spend the remaining of this school year in a group called Girls' Clubhouse. The group will meet 2 times per month. The meetings will include activities to build character and self-esteem. The teacher mentors check-in 2 times per week with their mentees to talk about grades, behavior, and/or other concerns. The bracelets will build life-long friendships with the girls and their teacher mentors.
The Black Girl Magic journals will be used as a guide during our monthly meetings to build self-esteem.
The bracelets will become a bond between the mentors (the teachers) and mentees (the girls). We just want the girls to know that it's okay to be themselves!! Being you is ENOUGH!!
