"Always be prepared" is something that my students are reminded to be everyday and as the year goes on it becomes a part of them. To ensure that my students are always prepared, I feel I must obtain all the tools I can to make this possible.
My students are hard workers and never want to give up.
Our school is economically, socially, and ethnically diverse. We have over 90% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch. In my classroom, I have 23 students from all over the world. Five different languages are spoken by my students and for many of them English is not their first language. They enjoy math and writing, but they especially love reading. Many of them have struggled hard to make it to a 4th grade reading level and I want them to have as much as they can so they can go beyond where they are now.
My Project
These students will benefit greatly by receiving books. Their minds will be opened to new worlds and they will be exposed to many different genres. They will also have a better opportunity to answer questions when they participate in the Battle of the Books Competition that is held school-wide.
The books fly off the shelves in our library, as the library has very few sets and there are over 150 students trying to read them all year long. If our class had its own set, the students would have a better opportunity to read them all.
Obtaining these books for my students will make a big impact on their learning and will give them a better opportunity to learn about kids with other backgrounds.
It will also give them a better opportunity to win the Battle of the Books.
