My Students

My students want to participate in Battle of the Books AGAIN this year. The first battle? Getting the books!

My students are curious, active fifth graders who learn in more than a traditional way.

My two classes are composed of sixty students with both typical and special learning needs. Our school is located in a low-income, small agricultural community. We are a Title I school, with at least 70% of our students receiving free or reduced priced lunch.

My Project

My students need several copies of different books on this year's Battle of the Books list. Having pairs and small groups will allow for collaboration and give students to read with other students with similar interests. My students will have the opportunity to write book recommendations and communicate their ideas about the book via journal entries. Having these books in our classroom will open students minds to new genres and authors which will help to shape them as readers.

The resources requested will give my students the opportunity to read popular books in small reading groups that will facilitate collaboration and allow my students to go on a reading adventure.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
