Battle Childhood Obesity By Supporting Physical Education In Urban Schools
My students need an agility ladder, and speed chute to work on agility training and footwork. They also need 2 ball bags, 4 yoga mats to practice yoga, stretching and meditation, and a flag football set.
I am a Health/Physical Education teacher in an urban school in Philadelphia serving at-risk and minority students. The school is an accelerated high school for students who are behind in high school credits and in danger of dropping out of high school. The students here have amazing potential and are great kids. They work hard every day but unfortunately aren't afforded the same resources others may have in other schools. The majority of students in my school come from low-income households, and many students have dealt with unimaginable challenges due to crime, violence, and other obstacles, but they really want to thrive both as students and members of the community.
This is my 2nd year at this school and we have very limited resources.
With the help of generous community partners and individuals, we have took it upon ourselves to provide our students with quality gym equipment. We are requesting an agility ladder, and speed chute to help with building footwork speed/agility, a scoreboard, 2 ball bags, and 4 yoga mats. Your help and contributions will be a huge help to students who actually need it! Thank you for your generosity and compassion!
We are in need of an agility ladder and speed chute to help improve footwork and coordination. We also are requesting a scoreboard so students can keep score during gym, 2 ball bags to store equipment, 4 yoga mats so that students can practice yoga, meditation, and stretching.
Additionally, we are in need of a set of flag football belts so that students can play flag football.
All of the above equipment will give students more opportunities to improve their fitness, and reduce childhood obesity; all while having fun! With childhood obesity rates at all-time highs, it's important to expose students to engaging and meaningful activities during Gym/Physical Education class which will hopefully lead to lifelong participation in sports and fitness.
