My Students

Ours is a high performing high school located on the coast in rural North Carolina. According to the state's ranking system, we have become quite an academic powerhouse, especially considering our size. Interestingly, we are also quite an athletic one; our students excel in the classroom and on the field. There is always room to grow!

Our students are more than willing to work hard, especially those that are playing team sports.

Our students recognize that hard work pays huge dividends. The baseball team is one that I coach and they are more than willing to "hit it outta the park!"

My Project

Batting helmets are arguably the most important piece of equipment for baseball players. Without a proper batting helmet on in the batter's box, a player has a much higher risk of suffering from a concussion if hit by a pitch. The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) has raised the bar on protecting athletes from brain injury by requiring sports such as football and baseball to upgrade the standard of helmet worn by players on the field.

Our baseball team is in need of upgraded batting helmets in order to comply with NOCSAE protection standards and to protect our student-athletes from injury.
