This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All children enjoy playing with toys. My students are no different. In this case, though, my students need toys that have been adapted to meet their needs due to various cognitive and motor skills impairments.

Battery interrupters can be used on store-bought toys to bypass the need for children to activate the toy by pressing Elmo's hands or feet; Instead, the toys can be activated by pressing a large switch (or button).

My students lack the cognitive and/or motor abilities to play with Elmo the way that typical children do. With a battery interrupter and a switch/button, they can still sing along with Elmo or dance with Santa. While they are playing along ,they are also learning cause and effect and how to use their senses to access the environment. These supplies are essential in helping my students access the curriculum so they can develop in all areas.
