Batteries Needed to Use High-Tech Gadgets

My students need AAA batteries and a new battery for the classroom's digital camera.

My Students

Can you imagine having the required technology to teach college prep coursework but being unable to use it due to a lack of something as simple as a package of batteries? That's the situation I face.

I teach at a small rural school in south central Oklahoma.

My students are often from the lower socioeconomic section. In addition, our school is located approximately 30 miles from the nearest town where they can purchase needed supplies such as batteries for their graphing calculators. Also, the battery for the class camera that we use to document projects is also going dead.

My Project

I have a limited budget and with the current economic situation, I will have a hard time justifying purchasing a battery for our classroom camera and batteries for the thirty graphing calculators that are checked out yearly by my students. (We have the calculators thanks to the amazing donors at this site!) I attempt to keep some batteries on hand for the calculator, but often end up running out.

I have learned that when my students suddenly stop completing homework assignments, it often isn't because they don't understand the lesson, but because their calculator batteries are dead and they either don't have the money to replace them.

Or, no one is going to be going to town any time soon to pick them up. Please help me give my students the tools required to succeed in my classes.
