My Students

Most students are afraid of bats. Statements like "they'll lay eggs in your hair" and "they bite & have rabies" is what I hear every time I ask what they think about bats. I teach the facts and show why bats are so IMPORTANT to us. Bats are our Nocturnal Cuties. My goal is bat conservation.

My students are curious and eager learners.

We live in a rural area and our school is low income with about 85% free lunch, so my kids' learning opportunities are limited to our school setting. On the first day of school, I always ask who has been to a zoo, an aquarium, a museum, or any other hands on learning experience. The answer is always the same...about 95% have never been to any of the places mentioned. About a third of my students are special needs. One way to broaden the students' horizons is to complete a hands on project, like our annual science fair. This year, I chose our furry mammal friend, the bat. I have students who are learning disabled and have trouble reading and writing. Projects are a GREAT way to get everyone involved in the creating process regardless of their abilities. All students contribute something to our project. The main problem is the money. Projects cost and teachers do not get any resources to complete this invaluable hands on learning experience.

My Project

Your donation to my classroom would be invaluable to our learning process. This year we are learning about bats. The resources that I requested are necessary for our hands on project that we are going to create. The bat books, the glue, the poster board, the bat skeleton, the gloves, the pencils and sharpener, the scissors, and the dissection kit are all items that are needed to complete our science fair project. I will be able to use most of the resources for years to come. The students will be able to physically see the importance of bats in our ecosystem. Your donation will provide the opportunity for my students to have a wonderful hands on learning experience. Without your donation, our project would not be able to happen. Our school simply does not have the funds for projects and my kids' parents cannot afford any extra fees. With your donation, I can teach important bat facts and play the bat blind fold eating game using the resource gloves, which shows the method of echolocation.

Your donation to our science fair project would make a huge impact on my students.

I wouldn't be able to afford to create a detailed project without your generous donation. Your donation will take the bat and show kids how important they are to everyone. Your donation would indirectly contribute towards global bat conservation. The most important impact your donation would have, is my students would go from fearing and hating these awesome creatures to having an understanding and respect for them.
