80% of students at our school are economically disadvantaged and 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. At our school we focus on eliminating financial obstacles that may be barriers to instrumental music education.
Our diversity is our strength at our International Baccalaureate School with 51% Hispanic, 31% White, 12% Black, 5% Asian, and 1% other.
These students work together to perform in community parades, concerts, and special events. They are eager to learn and excited to come to school but need your help to be successful.
Marching bass drummers are some of the most dedicated members of the marching band. Not only because they must work together like a handbell choir but because they have to carry the biggest and heaviest of instruments! Unfortunately our bass drum carriers are older models that poorly distribute the weight of the drum on the spine and shoulders. Ouch.
You can help our students avoid future back pain by upgrading our carriers to new technology that properly distributes the weight and allows us to concentrate on marching and playing our best.
The technology is called ABS - Articulated Back Support - and it automatically adjusts the carrier to keep the weight off of your shoulders. As a bonus we will even be able to recycle our old carriers to help our snare drum section have better equipment. (You wouldn't believe how old their carriers are!)
As a band director who used to march bass drum I unfortunately know the dangers of marching with a poorly designed carrier first hand. Even twenty years later and I can still feel the same vertebrae that became inflamed back in high school. Please help me provide my students with happy musical memories and healthy backs!
