Basquiat Neo-Expressionist Painting

Help me give my students the chance to paint like Jean Michel Basquiat! This includes tempera paint and other items.

My Students

My students are primarily lower income and 90% are minorities. My students are incredibly creative and love learning. They love being exposed to different art forms and embrace their creativity.

Resources are limited at my school and differentiation would greatly benefit instruction.

My Project

My students absolutely love painting and learning about diverse modern artists such as Jean Michel Basquiat. Learning about his artwork has really inspired my students and made them think about art in a new way. My students have really enjoyed using traditional media to create new effects such as with textured reliefs and combining media for a layered composition.

My students also always benefit greatly from reading about the artists so I also am asking for a new Jean Michel Basquiat book because of the beautiful inspiring work and words, and, it will be easy to pick up to reference during our class time.
