Our school is in a rural area in Southern, Indiana. My classroom holds about 120 students per day. Of these students, many come from low income families. Our area also has had many immigrants move in recently, so we have lots of students from all different backgrounds and all learning at very different paces. Some of my students are well above grade level while other students are well below grade level.
Classroom size and ability levels keep growing, but budgets are not.
Students are expected to demonstrate mastery of skills, but they are being asked to do it without much hands-on materials.
My Project
Providing for one athletic team these days is hard but providing for 7 to 9 different teams in a program and getting them everything they need/want is even harder. We are building a youth basketball program by forming teams at all of the Elementary levels to help build our overall basketball program.
Student athletes will be able to use the basketballs to perform drills without having to worry about the condition of the basketball.
We also hope this would allow us to have more efficient practices and have more of our shots go through the hoop! :-)
This project is important to us because we want to see all kids succeed on and off the floor. Giving them the tools and resources to help them is our goal and this would be a little thing that would go a long way in helping better our program.
