This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing ten-year-old kids who have yet to discover or even imagine what they can do with their lives. It is my job to open their eyes and thoughts to all the choices and opportunities that our world has to offer. They need to know that there is life beyond the four blocks of their neighborhoods, and that even within their communities are hidden gems waiting to be discovered. I want to open them to curiosity and teach them compassion. There is so much roughness that they endure. They deserve better.

They come to school knowing that here, they will have a chance to be ten-year-olds who are expected to learn, to treat each other with kindness and respect, and to live up to their full potential.

They know that inside this building, they have a chance to reach for the stars. This isn't always the case when they are not here...so here is the time for me to give them every possible chance and use every possible resource to help them reach their greatest dreams. Who's ready for a full, active day in fifth grade? My students are!

My Project

Students in the fifth grade have wonderful imaginations. Using this innate curiosity and drive brings our curriculum to life and provides students with ownership of their education.

It's amazing how construction paper and markers can motivate students to dig in and enjoy the learning process.

Students create foldable books filled with what they are learning. They further develop fine motor skills (yes, even in the fifth grade) by cutting out various items for their books.

When learning to create, take notes, or complete and label graphics for science labs. a dull pencil just won't do. Being able to sharpen your pencil is simply a necessity.
