Daily life for my students is unsure and difficult. Walking safely to and from school, and knowing where their next meal is coming from, these are challenges up front and personal to them. Finding time and resources to reinforce core skills can be difficult if not impossible, so every moment in school counts. Our school is high needs, with many students suffering from emotional and social deficits. They need time not only to practice educational enrichment (reading and math), but appropriate social interaction (playing games). I feel the need to squeeze in as much practice with not only academics, but emotional and social growth as well.
