I started teaching 30 years ago. Learning and the digital age has brought so many changes to education. Who would have thought teaching and learning would be happening this way?
I teach an amazing class of 22 wonderful first graders.
There are 13 boys and 9 girls who come from a diverse, urban setting. Many come from homes that are financially challenged and cannot provide the basic school supplies. We are a group that loves to read, draw, and get involved in our daily school activities in class.
With the onset of COVID-19, my district has turned to one-to-one technology. My classroom will now have iPads for each student. Paper and pencil will be used some, but iPads will equally be in use. My students will need stylus pens to use with the iPads so they can continue to practice like a pen to help develop their fine motor grip.
These will be used on a daily basis and be a huge aid in our education.
Using a stylus helps students develop fine motor skills they use while writing. Using a stylus on the iPad is similar to pencil and paper, except digital.
Another item I am requesting is a card to Teachers Pay Teachers to help purchase resources and activities for my students. The resources available on Teachers Pay Teachers are subject-based, grade-level appropriate, current, relevant, and engaging for students. I want to do anything possible that will help support my students' academic needs and boost their confidence.
