As the economy continues to struggle, my students continue to lack the basic supplies that they need to succeed in school. Supplies that most of us take for granted, such as simple pocket folders, are beyond the means of most of my students' parents. My students deserve the best, but our school can no longer supply them with these basics. I need to turn to those who have more, I need to turn to you. You can help. You can be the change we need to help them succeed.
My students need simple folders and labels in order to keep their writing projects and handouts organized. It seems like such a simple thing, but after watching them struggle to keep their notes, handouts, and projects organized, I see that it is an immediate necessity. I have chosen three colors so that we can distinguish each class's folders at a glance. The labels, of course, will help to identify each student's folder.
We also need dictionaries and thesauri so that the groups of students within each class may peer and self edit before they conference with me. We have several, but they are very worn and can't be repaired any longer.
I find it sad that my school can no longer supply these basic materials to my students, but I know that there are those out there who are ready, willing, and able to help in these tough times. By providing something as simple as a folder, you really can help to change a child's life. Are you ready to help make a change?
