My Project

My amazing artists come from around New York City to attend high school at our arts magnet school. They are bright, creative, and active participants in the community. They are also about 75% women. My students are eager to learn more about chemistry and how it shapes to world around them. The basic supplies will help make sure we have to tools to succeed to make learning engaging. Whiteboard erases will serve a model atoms so we can see how matter at the atomic level interacts and shapes the world around us. Basic tools will be used to demonstrate how the invisible world of atoms can be modeled to better understand the visible scientific phenomenon around us. Everything from photosynthesis, to cell phone cases, and life saving medications are made of atoms that interact with the world around us.

These basic supplies will help my classes get setup for success all year long.

My students are the future entertainers, engineers and doctors that will better the world around them. Our chemistry class will explore how the abstract world of atoms creates everything around us. The tools we use to master our craft whether it be a clarinet, a screenplay, a paintbrush, a stage light, a laboratory instrument, the paper of new inclusion legislation is written on or a new invention that tackles global climate change are all made of the atoms that we study in our chemistry class. The simple classroom supplies of paper, whiteboard erasers, dice and organizational supplies will allow our class to model atoms to better understand how atoms interact and change as they create the world around us. These materials will allow us to use hands-on activities to explore atomic behavior.
