This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in our middle school come with a wide variety of challenges. From emotional needs to learning disabilities, these students strive to defeat the odds. Our program supports them with a more modified approach to learning.
Our students aren't always as prepared for class as they would like to be and this being a reading/ELA class, the need for basic classroom supplies are essential.
We go through hundreds of pencils per school year as well as reams of notebook paper. These items may be simple to most but to our students and our low-income school for that matter, it is hard to come by without sacrifice.
My Project
These basic classroom supplies are very hard to come by for most of my students. To have these readily available to them daily could mean the difference in the outcome of their school day. Our students struggle with emotional and behavioral disorders and simply having the tools available to them could mean the difference between success and failure.
In our class, students learn the fundamentals of reading and writing.
They also use their creativity and writing abilities to master the art of essay writing. Hence the reason the basic supplies of paper and pencil are so important to their daily success. These students strengthen their reading and creative writing through the use of an SRA reading program and exploration of new writing topics.
