Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher with 17 years of teaching experience. My school is located in the heart of Corona Queens. This has been one of the hardest hit areas by the Corona Virus in the United States. Many students are coming from a low socio-economic background. There are over 115 students who live in shelters and many more who share space with numerous other families. Most of the children are ELLS and come from hardworking immigrant families. With the pandemic happening, these hardworking families cannot even get to work and many can barely put food on the table.
My Project
My students in general are coming from a low socio-economic background. Many come into school missing the basic supplies. With the current situation due to the corona-virus, many of these families have members who are sick or have lost their job. They are just trying to ensure there is food on the table. In addition with the budget cuts to the NYC Department of Education there will be less materials provided by our schools. Please help me provide my students with the basic school supplies that they will need to succeed during this coming year.
